
Generator

The powerhouse is located on the right bank of at
the end of the Umbata Gorge. The turbine chamber is built 12 metres
below the natural ground level and contains two 9,500 kilowatts
rated capacity Turbine/Generator Groups.
Two penstocks descend towards the powerhouse and feed the turbines.
Each turbine is designed to rotate at 400 RPM with a flow between
8.1 and 32.5 cubic meters of water per second (m3/s or cms)
Each turbine is connected to a generator which converts the mechanical
energy into electricity.
The control panel indicates:
- The ecological of Umbata Falls
- The turbined flow for power production
- The total river flow
- The total power produced
