The Powerhouse

Generator

The powerhouse is located on the right bank of at the end of the Umbata Gorge. The turbine chamber is built 12 metres below the natural ground level and contains two 9,500 kilowatts rated capacity Turbine/Generator Groups.

Two penstocks descend towards the powerhouse and feed the turbines.

Each turbine is designed to rotate at 400 RPM with a flow between 8.1 and 32.5 cubic meters of water per second (m3/s or cms)

Each turbine is connected to a generator which converts the mechanical energy into electricity.
